Abstract

The focus of this research project will be to determine the educational needs of community stakeholders related to the identification and management of concussions in children and youth in Prince Edward Island. Concussions are an important public health concern particularly for children and youth who may be underreporting their symptoms after a head injury. Many concussion myths still prevail. The foundational information gleaned from this research project will provide the strategic direction for the UPEI Concussion Awareness Program (CAP). The environmental scan includes a survey that will be completed over the phone or via web conferencing with mixed quantitative and qualitative methods. These tools include questions on a Likert scale, a priority ranking, and open-ended questions. The sample will include individuals from various stakeholder groups including; parents, coaches, and club administrators. The anticipated conclusion will result in a report provided to the CAP for their educational and research efforts in the PEI child and youth community going forth.
