Abstract

Several aquatic environments of the province of Córdoba (Argentina) are used for sport fishing and catching of bait fish. The aim of this paper is to describe the characteristics of 9 outbreaks of disease on wild fish in the central-south region of Córdoba (31° and 35°S, 62° and 65°W). Fish were caught with different fishing gears and transported, alive and/or refrigerated, to the laboratory for analysis. The involved species were Odontesthes bonariensis, Cyphocharax voga, Plecostomus cordovae, Cnesterodon decemmaculatus, Rhamdia sapo, Pimelodus albicans, Astyanax eigenmanniorum, Hoplias malabaricus, Jenynsia lineata, Cyprinus carpio and Oligosarcus jenynsi. The aetiologic agents Aeromonas hydrophila, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Saprolegnia sp., Lernaea sp., Argulus sp., Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Trichodina sp., Gyrodactylus sp. and Contracaecum sp. were identified. The corresponding relationships in fisheries and its importance in public health are discussed.
