Abstract

A total of 52 taxa of marine benthic algae is reported from Pengchia Yu, a remote islet located off northeastern Taiwan. Two taxa represent new records for the marine flora of Taiwan, three taxa show their range extension. This islet acts as a tropical refugium in a region that is widely known to have cold water floristic affinities. The effects of the sea surface-water temperature and current on the distribution of algae are also discussed.
