Kim Palmer-Nickerson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from St. Francis Xavier University, with a degree in Anthropology. Following graduation, Kim started working in the private sector with Loblaw Companies Ltd. (Atlantic Superstore) based in Charlottetown, PEI where she gained valuable experience in accounting and HR activities such as recruiting, payroll, benefits and employee engagement. It's during this time that Kim's passion for HR grew and as a result, Kim obtained her Human Resources Management Certificate from UNB to further her education in this area.
In 2001, Kim had the opportunity to move into a Human Resources Manager role with Loblaws based out of Halifax, NS. In this position Kim partnered with the regional leadership team to support and implement critical HR processes in Atlantic Superstores including talent management, recruitment & retention, engagement, performance management, as well as the promotion of organizational cultural priorities centered around the concepts of Care, Ownership, Respect & Excellence. Additionally, Kim worked with Operational and HR leadership teams on many National initiatives including the implementation of a National HRIS system for Loblaws.
While working full-time with Loblaws, Kim pursued her Master's of Business Administration from UPEI, and graduated in 2017. It was an amazing experience that allowed her to expand her business expertise and immediately apply those learnings to her role. After graduation, Kim was thrilled to be invited to join the UPEI McDougall Faculty of Business as a sessional instructor for the Human Resources Management in Canada course.
In 2019, Kim accepted an opportunity as a Human Resources Manager with the Government of Prince Edward Island. She currently supports the leadership team at the Department of Economic Growth, Tourism & Culture on its strategic priorities including workforce planning, leadership development, engagement, staffing, classification, and performance management.
