Isomeric dichlorobenzene complexes of ironcyclopentadienyl and pentamethylcyclopentadienyl- ruthenium were used to facilitate nucleophilic arom. substitution (SNAr) reactions with a variety of O, S, and N contg. nucleophiles. Oligomeric and polymeric systems were achieved by variation in the ratio of the starting complexes and nucleophiles. The properties of the resultant complexes varied depending on the nature of the bridging ligands, functional groups present, and no. of metal moieties. Cyclic voltammetry was employed in order to det. the degree of interaction between the metal centers. In addn., photolytic demetallation was used to liberate the free org. materials. A detailed description of the exptl. conditions and properties will be presented.
