The International Baccalaureate Organization offers an internationally recognized curriculum designed to provide a rigorous international education. The IB Diploma Programme is committed to literacy, academic freedom, and education as cultural action. This ethnographic case study explores the history and critical incidents leading to the initial implementation of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Prince Edward Island, Canada, in 2008-2009. From the perspective of a new IB Coordinator, this study traces the challenges of implementing the IB Programme in a typical high school. This study relies on historical investigation, document analysis, and interviews to detail the evolution of the IB from vision to educational reality.
