Abstract

The selection of search terms for query formulation and expansion is a challenging task within the information search and retrieval process. Two general approaches have been adopted in studies on search term selection: system-centred and user-centred. The system-centred approach is represented by work on algorithms and evaluation based on the traditional IR model, a model that fundamentally ignores the users and their interaction with the system.
