Abstract

The conflicts over curriculum reform are connected to the changes in social relations presaged by the arrival of state schooling, using the example of the London Technical School in Ontario, Canada, in the early 20th century. The author discusses the debates over "vocational" versus "academic" schooling that arose between the different interest groups that wished to either enforce or dispel the gender, ethnic, and economic status quo.
