PCR primers that amplified 6 microsatellite loci in walleye were designed. The level of variation at these loci was examined in 186 adult walleye from Sioux Lake (Minnesota). The number of alleles per locus ranged from 4 to 10; the expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.4 to 0.78. Three of the 6 primer pairs amplified loci in yellow perch (Perca flavescens). The nucleotide sequences reported have been deposited with the GenBank database with accession numbers G36961-G36965 and G36967..
