Abstract

This note discusses the correction made by Sheridan to the formula used for predicting changes in fish size on the basis of selection differentials for a correlated trait [Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (1996) 53 (4) 933]. It draws attention to the fact that, to predict the direction of response with the corrected formula requires that the phenotypic standard deviations for scale and fish size must be greater than zero, and the sign of the phenotypic correlation between them must be known..
