P. aeruginosa was present in 0.29% of 11 836 milk samples from cows with mastitis, tested in the Netherlands during the first half of 1997. Acute, severe mastitis occurring in 6 herds after drying-off was traced to inadvertent contamination of teat wipes with P. aeruginosa..
