Abstract

A simple procedure that can be used by veterinary practitioners for identification of mastitis pathogens is outlined. It consists of using plates of blood agar or 2 selective agars (TK/FC and MacConkey), the catalase test and Gram staining to identify major udder pathogens in milk samples. When the type of mastitis infection is known, the veterinary practitioner can recommend the most effective method for controlling the infection..
