Abstract

Developmental changes in adolescents' gender-related cognitions were measured by an empirical inductive analysis of verbal responses to hypothetical gender-identity and gender-role conflict situations. The situations were read by 2 noncohort samples of 273 and 255 junior and senior high school male and female students who were then asked to make decisions about the issues involved and to give reasons for their answers.
